Cleaning upholstered furniture is not as hard as some might make it out to be. These tips and tricks will help you to restore your upholstered furniture to pristine condition with ease.

Regular Vacuum Cleaning

The best thing you can do to keep your upholstered furniture in tip top shape and pristine condition is to vacuum clean it regularly.

You can also use upholstery attachments to free your upholstered furniture from dust and debris.

Read the Manufacturers Guide

The manufacturers guide will detail the best methods of cleaning. Read it in its entirety, it should not be too long.

‘W’ means that you can use water for cleaning the fabric. ‘S’ means you will have to use an alcohol based solvent or some other non-water solvent.

‘S/W’ means that both alcohol and water based solvents will work fine. ‘X’ means that you should not use any type of solvent (including water), and instead rely on vacuum cleaning only.

Stain Resistant Products

If your upholstered furniture has not been applied with stain resistant products then you should do it yourself. If already applied, inquire from your manufacturer when you will need to reapply the stain resistant product.

Applying stain resistant products will make your upholstered furniture more impervious to grease, oils and stains.

Never Scrub

Even with the most stubborn stains, do not use excessive abrasive force lest it degrades the fabric. Strong abrasive action may even be counterproductive as it could drive the stain deeper inside.

Apply stain remover and then mildly blot it out. Microfiber soft cloth will work well.

Don’t Go Overboard With Water

Do not use excessive water thinking that more is better. You may want to make upholstery sprays your first choice for stain cleaning rather than water.
